HOW TO ORDER EXTENSION SPRINGS FOR YOUR GARAGE DOOR

Determine your garage door weight and height

Many extension spring weights are indicated by the color code painted on the end of the spring. However, spring manufacturers can use different color codes to indicate a specific pulling weight of an extension spring. When ordering extension springs, refer to the color code on the end of the springs but it recommended not use this color code system as the only way to determine the correct extension springs to order. It is recommended to weight the garage door to be accurate as to what extension springs to order.

Measure the height of the garage door. All extension springs sold on our online parts store can accommodate a garage door 7 ft high or less. If your garage door is taller than 7 ft, please call our helpdesk at 1-800-733-0261 for assistance.

HOW TO WEIGHT YOUR GARAGE DOOR

Raise your garage door to the full open position. Secure the door in the up position by using vice grips or c-clamps under both bottom rollers of the garage door.

Carefully remove the extension springs from the garage door

For a one car garage door, carefully lower the garage door onto a bathroom scale in the center of the garage door. Read the scale. The weight that shows on the bathroom scale is the size extension spring you need to order.

For a two car garage door, carefully lower the garage door on to two bathroom scales. Each scale should be located approximately two feet from each side. Read the scales. Add the weight of the two scales together. The sum of the two scales is the size of the extension spring you need to order.

WE SELL EXTENSION SPRINGS IN PAIRS ONLY.

ALL EXTENSION SPRING SALES ARE FINAL AND CAN NOT BE RETURNED.
